Problems Purchasing or Downloading Apps

If you are having problems purchasing or downloading an app, you need to get help from Apple support.

Common Problems

The App Isn’t Working — the Audios Don’t Play, I can’t hear them.

Sometimes people don’t hear the audio when they try to play it because the volume on either their iPhone/iPad or the app itself is not turned up high enough. The volume for the voice, music and nature sounds is controlled by volume sliders (the far right position being the loudest). Also — please make sure your earphones/earbuds are plugged in all the way. If you have checked these things and still have a problem, please see the General Tips below.

General Tips

If you are having difficulty with any of our Apps, including problems with audio quality (such as speeding up, voice being garbled, etc.) please try the following:

1.Redownload the App — If you have problems using the App when you first download it, try re-downloading it in case something went wrong in the download. Make sure to allow time for the App to download completely. Follow this link for download instructions —

2.Make sure you have the latest IOS software on your device. You can download the latest software at this link —

3.Make sure you have the latest update of our App. You can check if an update is available by using the Update icon on your device.

If you still have a problem or questions, you can email us at the address below. Please give us some detail about how you try to use the app and what happens so that we can troubleshoot the problem for you.

    Did not load. Seemed to get hung up loading. Should it take over 10 minutes to load?

    Do you mean that you were unable to download the app onto your iPhone/iPod after purchasing it? If so, there is extensive support on iTunes for this type of problem. Go to the App Store and click the support link at the bottom of the page.

    If this wasn’t the problem or you are unable to solve the problem this way, please get back to us!

    @Paul W — When the With Music button is tapped, it should show up as a darker green. Once you’ve verified that the With Music button is activated, please try listening briefly with a loud volume and see if you hear the music. If yes, then the problem is that the music volume is mixed too low for you. It’s difficult to get a volume that pleases everyone and sounds the same for every type of earphone situation. We are looking at how we can address this in an upgrade.

    @Stan – We are trying to find a way to offer separate volume controls so people can adjust the level of the music to suit their taste. Originally we thought it wouldn’t be possible to do that due to the size of the voice and music files, but we think we may be able to find a way around that. If we cannot offer separate volume controls, we will increase the relative volume of the music and see how that works.
    1/26/2010 Update – we will release an update shortly with separate volume controls for voice and music.

    Is there any way to incorporate meditation that leads to sleep instead of waking at the end?

    Blanca, we have meditations specifically for falling asleep (our Sleep Easy album, for example), but people often find they can use other meditations of ours for falling asleep. I assume you have the Simply Being app as you’ve commented on this page. You could try listening to a meditation on it after you’ve gone to bed and see if it helps you sleep (you may fall asleep before even hearing the ending or you can ignore the ending). We are developing a new app, as well, which may work a little better for falling asleep. Let me know if this doesn’t answer your question!

    I am seeing that you have 2 iPhone meditation applications and am wondering if you can give me a distinction for them both…how do they differ?

    Sharron, the main difference between the two is the meditations themselves. The Simply Being App has meditations similar to the Simply Being meditation on the podcast, but it is offered in four different lengths (5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes). The Relax & Rest App has three meditations: a short Breath Awareness Meditation, the Deep Rest meditation (from the podcast but of course without the podcast introduction) and a longer Whole Body Meditation in which you systematically let go of tension throughout your whole body.

    Both have the option to listen with or without music and to adjust the volume of the music relative to the voice. Both have meditations of varying lengths. You can also turn the voice down to hear the music alone.

    I have just purchased the Simple Being App but the volume of both the voice and music is very low even when on the highest setting. I can barely hear the voice and cannot hear it if there is any background noise. What can I do?.

    Yolie, Perhaps it didn’t download completely. Try re-downloading it and be sure to wait for it to download completely. Let us know if there is still a problem after doing that.

    Downloaded your app, but it would never install on my iPhone. Tried everything. iPhone help is useless.

    Downloaded it twice, but still no luck. Finally tried to dowload directly to the phone and it said it wasn’t compatible with my device??? I have an iPhone 3G running 3.1.2.

    Can you help?

    Tracy, You need to update your operating system on your iPhone to 3.1.3, then it should work. Let us know if you still have a problem after doing this!

    I too am having a problem loading it onto my itouch. I have the latest software. It’s fully downloaded, but wont sync. Any suggestions on what to do?

    Sorry you are having this problem. You can try re-downloading the app just in case something happened with the original download. Instructions are on this page – If that doesn’t solve the problem, please check with the Apple support. We haven’t ever had someone have this problem before and don’t think it can have to do with the App. Let us know if these steps don’t solve the problem for you.

    Please try re-downloading the App. You can re-download it for free. Here are Apple’s instructions about how to do that:
    Make sure you allow enough time for it to download completely.

    Is this app for the iPad? If so it did not download to mine. I tried to reload it but it will not let me install it again.

    Christina, yes, this app works on iPad. We have no idea why you are having this problem. We haven’t had anyone else report this. It’s not a problem related to the App itself. It’s an issue with the download process. Have you downloaded apps to your iPad before? If you bought it on your computer, you might have to sync it with the iPad to get it on the iPad. If using the iPad support pages doesn’t help, perhaps you could visit the Apple store and have someone help you.

    I love this app! I pop my iTouch into a speaker dock at the office and play it “With Music” only…with the annoying office noises and voices it’s nice to have this gentle, ambient music seeping through it all. Thank you!

It allows you to play any selection up to one hour or create a playlist with a series of selections. Best wishes.

    Will you be adding multitasking ability? I know, it sound weird, but I use another app to track my meditation stats. So it would be nice for me to have your app running while I use the other one to track my time. I know I am probably in the minority hear but thought I should at least ask. Thanks!

    Sean, we disabled the multitasking ability for this app because it had some undesirable effects on the functioning of the app. We can continue to look into this as the technology progresses, but it is true that not many people would want the multitasking with the app!     I have SimplyBeing 1.0 for Mac, installed via App Store. The guided meditation is great! However, this summer I will have my holiday in a place where internet access is limited and unreliable. Could you please do an update so the audio is contained within the program? (Or provide me the audio file of “Voice with Music”, 20 mins.)

    Updating would have three advantages: Firstly, audio quality can be very high because Macs have hard disks. Secondly, your servers will be less busy. Thirdly, Macbook users can do the meditations everywhere, just like Iphone users.

    Is there any way to turn off the image and listen only? I use Simply Being to help me get to sleep, and while it may not make a difference on an iPhone, the large bright image on an iPad is not goog for getting to sleep. Can’t turn brightness down or place iPad too far away from my bed as that would interfere w/my alarm (one of those gradually brightening ones). Being able to turn image off or simply make the screen dark would make a big difference in trying to sleep — it’s very bright in a dark room. Thanks.

    Liz, you can set your iPad to “auto lock” after 2 minutes which will cause the screen to go dark after 2 minutes. Go into Settings/General to do that. Is there any reason why that would not work for you?

    Thank you for the recent update! I’m happy that Simply Being 1.1 (for mac) no longer needs an internet connection! I also like the separate volume bars.

    I get no voice on the app at all. Without voice the app is of no use to me. I wish I had read all these adverse comments before I paid for it.

    George, you should be able to hear the voice, unless the app got corrupted in the download process (which is unlikely). Please notice that there are separate volume controls for music/nature sounds and voice and make sure the voice volume slider is not all the way to the left. If the voice volume slider is all the way to the left, you would not hear the voice. Let us know if this doesn’t answer the question.

    I have (supposedly) purchased and downloaded Simply Being to my apps on my Blackberry Storm II. I get a SB screen, with volume controls and sound choices and a choice of Internet or WiFi connection, but no sound ever emits from the phone. I’m not sure I’m working the controls correctly, or that the app is fully or correctly installed, or even installed at all. What should I do?

    I’ve been using and enjoying Simply Being on my iPad for about a week now. But this morning while it was playing the sound just stopped (both the voice and background sound). I tried turning the iPad off and on again and also tried changing the settings, both background and duration.

    Sandra, sorry you are having the problem. We haven’t had anyone report this before, so are not sure what the problem is. First make sure that you have the latest OS on your iPad.     You know how I love this app. And I, too, had trouble with it when I upgraded to an iPhone 4. I tried and tried to follow the “re-install” instructions on the Apple Support page (, as you said) but the “Download” button with the little cloud never appeared, no matter what I did. It was only when I noticed an app I had DELETED from the phone had a little cloud that I realized I had to be brave and delete the app before I tried to re-install it. This step is omitted in the Apple instructions and I thought some readers might fall into the same quandary that I did. You have to delete the app before you can re-install it (it won’t re-install/repair the previous installation) Thanks again for the lovely hours of guided meditation!

    No mattter what length of meditation I select, it ends at 5 minutes. I just tried to compete a 20 minute meditation and was brought back after only 5. Any ideas?

    1 – Make sure you have the latest IOS software on your device. You can download the latest software at this link —
    2 – Redownload the App — Step 1 – Delete the app (touch the icon for the app until the apps wiggle on the screen. Touch the X on the app to delete it. Confirm you want it deleted when dialogue box appears). Step 2 – Go into the app store. Tap on the Purchased tab at the bottom of the page. You should see the app. There should be a “cloud” icon with an arrow in it. Tap on that. It should then download the app again.

    Please let us know if you are having a problem after trying these suggestions. Please include some detail on what steps you take to play the audios. Thank you for your patience.

    Hello. Can you tell me please, is there a way of restarting a track from the beginning? If i get interrupted and I have chosen a long duration meditation’ do i have to let it continue to the end or can I restart it please? Many thanks :-)

    Jayne, you can choose another meditation time, and then go back to the time you had chosen. It will then play from the beginning when you tap the Play button.

    Robert, whenever people have had problems hearing any sound, it has usually been because the volume on either the device or the app itself is not on loud enough. Please check that the volume sliders are not all the way to the left, which would mute the sound. Also sometimes people do not have the earphones/earbuds connected properly. If you’ve checked these things and still don’t hear anything, we suggest you re-download the app in case something got corrupted in the download process. Please let us know if you are still having a problem.
