Music as Meditation

You can use the music in Podcast Episode 6 as a background for meditation, yoga, massage and so on, but you can also use it as the focus of a meditation practice. To do this, simply listen to it with your full attention. Having your attention on the music will flood the body, mind and emotions with the vibrational qualities of the music in a more intense way than happens if the music is simply in the background.

Sit or lie down, close your eyes, and bring your attention to the music. Whenever you find your attention has wandered, bring it easily back to the music. As always, don’t strain or try to force your mind to follow the music, just be easy about it and “take it as it comes”.

These same meditation guidelines apply to any of our meditations. The focus in the meditations varies. It may be the body or the breath, or the focus may simply be to follow the gentle instructions in the guided meditations. In this case, the focus is the music.

It’s important to understand that it is not a mistake when the mind wanders from the music. Everything the mind does, everything that happens, is part of the meditation. So don’t try to concentrate or force the mind in any way. The only criteria for “right meditation” is that it is easy. The goal, if there is a goal, is effortlessness, but even if we are find ourselves making an effort sometimes, that’s OK. Just back off and continue.

Music for Meditation

If you enjoy the music in the background of our guided meditations, you’ll enjoy our Pure Light and Sleep Oasis albums. Pure Light takes music mainly from the background of our CDs, and Sleep Oasis is a compilation of music from the podcasts. For Sleep Oasis, we chose the music most conducive to falling asleep and enjoying a deep and restful quality of sleep.

Pain is now a Chronic Disorder which significantly reduces quality of life and independence, with many people suffering silently as medical and alternative treatments fail to bring control.
Can you please make an iPhone App which this at least one third of humanity could use to regain some dignity and joy in living.

Jeannie, thank you for your comment. We do want to make an iPhone app for pain. In the meantime, we do have a meditation called Beyond Pain in our podcast that many people have reported has helped them. It can be accessed on our Meditation Oasis Podcast on iTunes or on this website on our Listen to Our Podcast page. An easy way for iPhone users to access the podcast is to purchase the Meditation Oasis Podcast app. Best wishes.

Thank you so so so much for this! I don’t think I can even begin to describe what this has done for me. The first time I tried meditating to this I almost gave up because my mind was all over the place and I was terribly distracted. Something just didn’t feel right in my body. I stopped the music, but something inside of me said “use this time to address what is going on inside of you”. And I did just that. Instead of using the music to just meditate I sort of used it as a backround to pray. I had never been much of a praying type of person, but this time was different. The music raised my vibration and I spoke to The Creator about EVERYTHING. Every issue I had been carrying around with me felt like it was being washed away that day. Every question I had about myself was answered. When I was done I felt as if the weight of the world had finally been taken off my chest. Now every morning after doing a few of your guided meditations (whatever I’m in the mood for at the time) I’ll finish off with this music. It fills me with so much joy, gratitude and energy. I either pray with the music as a backsound or use it to ask questions and I almost always get an answer. I’m not entirely sure if that’s the “right way” to do it but it works for me and has helped me so much. O.K. That’s enough babbling from me. Again thank you, Richard and Mary for giving us this wonderful gift. You have helped me in ways that I can never put into words. Much love and stay blessed.

How wonderful to hear from you, Diana, and hear about your profound experience with Richard’s music. There’s no one “right way”. You followed your intuition and your heart and did what came naturally — that works!!! You are so very welcome, and we appreciate the time you took to share this with us. Love and blessings back to you from both of us.

Hello, Mary – I’ve listened to samples of every meditation/relaxation/sleep CD on the Audible/Amazon list, and none of them is “narrated” by a person whose voice even comes close to soothing. Your voice is perfect, and I play Sleep Easy on my iPod to relax and drift off to sleep. I also loop Richard’s music, which is ideal for what I want. Thank you!

Aisha, you are so welcome. Thank you for letting us know how well the meditations and music work for you! If you have an iPod Touch, you might also be interested in our iSleep Easy app. Also, we have a free podcast called Meditation Oasis with some of Richard’s music and many guided meditations. Best wishes.

Kamran, you can listen to the Chakra Meditation on our podcast which helps open all the chakras in a balanced way. But if you want instruction for the third eye specifically, I recommend you find a teacher to work with.

I have been working with meditation in many different forums for about 3 years now. I seem to go in spurts. I’ll get all turned on and follow one guru or another for a few weeks and then sort of drift away and forgo meditation all together. I have never felt really anxious to listen to the next p-cast.

Your pod casts are somehow different. I read the title but they don’t really attract me. But I eventually pick one and listen to it. When I’m done I’m very glad I picked it; and I cant wait until tomorrow so I can go again. (Dummy, you don’t have to wait).

I am drawn to your casts — why? there must be something that I need. I cant tell you why. I cant even tell you what any of the casts that I listened to are about. No clue, gone.

But I fully intend to stay with you a while. Thank you.

  11. Mary on May 5th, 2014 2:47 pm

Butch – You don’t need to know why they attract you or what they are about. It’s all about your own experience as you listen to the meditations and it’s about what it brings to your life. The “meditative experience” can’t be put into words. Keep us posted on how it goes for you. And you are welcome!
