What is meditation?

In our day to day life, our minds are engaged in observing, discriminating, deciding, analyzing and accomplishing. Meditation allows the mind to settle down by letting go of its usual outer-directed focus. It’s like shifting the gears in a car into neutral. The mind disengages and shifts into a peaceful, silent state.

What kind of meditation will I learn?

Our Online Meditation Course will help you discover your own natural ability to meditate. Usually meditation is thought of as a practice, a set of instructions to be followed. Actually, true meditation is an experience. It is a different way of being. It is a state of mind and heart.

What you will learn is not so much a kind of meditation as how to exercise a natural human ability — the ability to be at ease and flow more easily with life.

How will I learn to meditate with this course?

Learning to meditate is a lot like learning to ride a bicycle. Someone can show you how the bicycle works, help you to get on, but you discover how to balance, steer and move along by doing it. It comes naturally once you’ve gotten started. Your bicycle instructor doesn’t tell you exactly what to do, just how to get started.

Likewise, our course materials simply help you get started. The understanding provided in our written materials and the voice-guided instructions in our audios gently encourage you to experience meditation easily and naturally.

How does the course work?

The core of this four week course is guided meditations which gently coach you to learn to meditate. Each week has a different guided meditation audio and accompanying written materials to support your experience. You will be guided step by step through the entire process of learning to meditate.

You will also have four email consultations you may use during the course. These consultations are provided by website founders, Mary and Richard Maddux.

At the end of the course, we provide written instructions and recordings to support your meditation practice on your own. Once you’ve completed the four weekly lessons, you will continue to have access to the course and our email consultations for an extra week.

How much time will the course take?

Meditation Sessions (1/2 hour a day). To benefit from the course, you will need to set aside time each day for a four weeks to listen to the guided meditation in each week’s lesson. To get the most out of the course, we recommend that you listen to the guided meditation every day. Your guided meditation session will take about 1/2 hour of your time each sitting.

Reading (time varies according to need): You will have some reading to do before starting the course, as well as a brief introduction to read before the first time you use each guided meditation. The time it takes to read through these materials should be minimal. If you have any questions after listening to a guided meditation, you will need additional time to use our Support page. This page will address any questions or challenges you may have when you meditate with the guided meditation.

Do I have to change my beliefs or lifestyle to meditate?

No. Our meditation style is completely universal. It’s compatible with any religion, philosophy or lifestyle. It’s simply learning to experience a state of ease and peace. Your only lifestyle change will be adding meditation to your daily routine.
